We are delighted to report further recognition for Ignite!'s schools science programme, Lab_13, a space where children follow their curiosity about the world around them by devising hands-on experiments - with the guidance of a Scientist in Residence.
The first Lab_13 opened at Dovecote Primary School in Nottingham in 2009, and now the school has been recognised with the Primary Science Quality Silver Mark of excellence. The citation mentioned Lab_13 in glowing terms: "Lab_13 sounds fantastic! How fortunate the children are to have a dedicated place where they can freely investigate and develop their enquiry skills."
The Lab_13 at Dovecote is championed by science lead teacher Tracey Barton, and Headteacher, Andy Jenkins. The schools Inventor in Residence is the fantastic Dr Bryson Gore.
Meanwhile, both Lab_13's at Irchester Community Primary School in Northamptonshire, and Gillespie Primary School in Islington have appointed new members to their pupil Management Committees; we welcome the eager and enthusiastic new members of the teams - and look forward to hearing of their achievements in the coming terms.
Lab_13 Irchester also welcomes their new Scientist in Residence, Alice Draper, who has passed a testing appointment process by comparing the behaviour of raw and boiled eggs.
